My move to Arizona (yes I moved!) has caused me to fall into a reminiscent stage. As I learn the new layout of my living area I find myself missing friends, favorite restaurants or even the local jackpots. I miss knowing where things are and where to go. Perhaps its the longing for the well known that has lead me to cling to and search out vintage items.
Vintage: (adjective) denoting something of high quality, especially something from the past or characteristic of the best period of a person’s work
Specifically I’ve been in a Larry Mahan boot phase. Tall top boots are all the rage right now but dropping $350+ for a pair is hard to do. Not to downplay current makers and styles but boots are not made with the same care. The craftsmanship of vintage boots or jewelry is outstanding. The attention to detail creates a piece that withstand the tests of time and wear.
Etsy and eBay are great sources to find vintage boots at a cheaper price online. Thrift stores are another place to find boots or vintage jewelry. Spend a day and go exploring, you will be surprised what you can find and at what price. If you are in Utah I would check out Springville Antique Mall. They always have fun boots and unique jewelry at great price.
Pairing vintage pieces with today’s styles creates a unique look that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s thrilling to bring new life to a family heirloom or thrift store find.
You don’t have to limit vintage pieces to fashion. Thrift stores, antique malls, and flea markets are go-to venues to find knick-nacks for shelves, wall hangings or a statement making lamp. Buying these unique, one-of-a-kind, and often hard to find items gives your home or your closet a gateway for friendly conversation.
