Calgary, AB: For only starting the planning of the first ever Twisted Tea Ski Louise Stampede Canadian Cowboy Ski Race presented by Ranchman’s only starting a little more than six weeks ago, I think it turned out pretty darn well.
Counting up some of the final numbers we had 56 or so competitors and over 230 people for dinner. Congratulations to Riley Harvie as the Stampede Race winner and Wyatt Laughlin for the ski/boarder cross. Jessica Hansen was our top lady of the day while Sam Trottier was the top boarder. Brett Monea had the day’s worst wreck.
A huge thanks goes out to everyone that came out to make it the event it was! Another huge thanks goes out to everyone who donated or bought an item from the silent auction too. In the silent auction alone $6,405 was raised for the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team. Stay tuned later in the week for the total amount raised.
This all wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for all the tremendous support we received along with a few key people.
To start things off I would have liked to say more on Saturday. Since I didn’t and I luckily have the opportunity to thank you all here, I’d like to do that now.
I’m not totally sure on how things all got started with the race but I do know that somewhere in January I posted a video from the Cowboy Downhill on the Everything Cowboy Facebook Page asking what people thought about having a Canadian Version of that event. Glenn Street added a comment saying that he and his friend, Sandy Best from the Lake Louise Ski Area, had already had this conversation. Glenn asked at that point if I wanted to get in contact with Sandy to which I went all for.
Kynan Vine and Brandon Thome had already had the same conversation about having a fundraising event for the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team. From there we got together and the event was launched.
Kathy Butkovic came on board to help as well. The rest you could say is now history. That was up until about two weeks ago when Michelle Gosnell came on board with the Lake Louise Ski Area Events Team to work out the details. I can’t forget to mention Mike Moynihan either for all of his promotions work with the hill.
I would like to personally thank Kynan Vine of the CPRA for his marketing, sponsorship and ski knowledge for adding so much to this event.
Brandon Thome, I’d like to thank you for gathering a huge majority of the silent auction items and taking care of it all along with all the work you do for the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team. I want to see you guys grow along with our sport moving us all forward.
Kathy, I’d like to thank you for all of your sponsorship, silent auction, marketing and social media work leading into the event! Saturday March 30th was the first day in about a year and a half I never posted anything on EverythingCowboy.ca. I’m super glad you kept everyone up to date for us!!
Thank you to Devon Tupper, Deb Turner, and Jessie Lisk of the CPRA for taking all of the registrations and silent auction collections throughout the day. Your help is greatly appreciated. Especially with the confusing information I gave you to start! Haha.
Thank you to a very fast Brett Gardiner who came in second in the Stampede Race, had a huge wreck and still MC’d our evening function and announced the races.
Thank you to Miss Rodeo Canada, Gillian Shields for helping out during the day and representing our sport and event along with our other rodeo royalty that was present.
Thanks to Jill Bruder and her husband for organizing our ski and snowboard cross competitors.
Thank you to Storm Front Promotions for their donation of the contestant T-Shirts for the day. We still have a couple left if you’d like to purchase one as well! A second big thank you goes out to Storm Front for the embroidery on the ski cross championship jacket as you can see in the picture below!!

Wyatt Laughlin is presented the Ski Cross Championship Jacket which was donated by Ranchman’s and embroidered by Storm Front Promotions.
Thank you Glenn Street for getting this whole thing started with introducing me to Sandy to get things started.
Thank you to the Locke Family for the support of our event and making it the top class event it was at the Rockies; Biggest and Canada’s Best Mountain Resort.
Thank you to Twisted Tea for being our title sponsor for this year along with Ranchman’s for coming on as our presenting sponsor and presenting the buckle! We’d also like to thank the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, Canadian Cowboy Country Magazine, Storm Front Promotions and Energy Equine for supporting the Canadian Cowboy Ski Race as well.
Finally, a huge thank you goes out to everyone who showed up to compete, support, cheer on and be a part of the event. Without you it wouldn’t have been the event it was either!!
I personally want to apologize in advance if I’ve missed anyone in this note. I am doing my best to thank everyone!
We look forward to making this another great event for 2014!
In saying that, if you have a minute please take the time to answer a couple of these questions below in order to help us improve the event for next year. We have a prize or two that we will be randomly giving away as well. Be sure to include your name.
We look forward to it.
Thank you again,
Ted Stovin
