This year proved to be another one for books at the Wrangler National Finals. We saw new records made, World Champions crowned and as always we saw the ever changing style of the contestants.
As men’s style really hasn’t changed too much in the last few years, the fashions of barrel racing were what I kept my eyes on. The Jerry Ann Taylor Best Dressed Award made it’s first year appearance and the ladies of the WPRA delivered.
After her passing in 2012, renowned trick rider Jerry Ann Taylor’s husband and family set up a memorial award to be given to the best dressed cowgirl at the Wrangler National Finals as well as the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. With the help of the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame, the Jerry Ann Taylor Memorial “Best Dressed Award” went out to Fallon Taylor in it’s inaugural year. She pocketed an extra $5,000 for celebrating her own unique style.

Here’s my breakdown of the fashions seen on the top 15 barrel racers in the ten rounds of the WNFR. The majority of the girls stuck to the classic button down, off the rack jeans and a felt hat in a neutral color. We saw some conservative variations of this. Michele McLeod donned a Shorty’s Cowboy hat with a charcoal buckstitch and Mary Walker wore her Scully brand (or similar brand) shirts with some awesome wild rags. Kaley Bass donned her grey felt for a few nights.
We saw a few girls who went for it in terms of fashion. Fallon Taylor sported handpainted jeans and hats every night with matching Gypsy Tails on BabyFlo. Each night she wore a theme. Check out Glam&Grit’s Facebook page to see an insider look on each of her outfits or visit their website for a closeup of each of her hats. Shada Brazile was also no stranger to embellished jeans. 2013 Rookie of the Year Taylor Jacob even got in the fashion action one night by wearing a pink shirt with white feathers on the shoulders. A bold move.
As for those of us wandering Cowboy Christmas and the other shopping venues. Headwraps and palazzo pants were a must. We also saw many pointed toe, tall top boots, native print inspired sweaters and of course leggings in every color and print imaginable.
Be sure to take a look back on my posts about embellished hats and cowboy boots.
