MESQUITE, Texas — For a rodeo named “The American,” it could mean a lot of money for a couple Canadians who were allowed to enter and compete. With a possible $1,000,000 on the line, Tyrel Larsen and Tanner Byrne are all in after today’s semifinals in Mesquite.
Larsen scored 80 points today to finish in fifth place and get himself a spot, while Byrne qualified last month out of the PBR Touring Pro Division event in Pueblo, CO.
Although Larsen moved on, seven other Canadians failed to move on from this weekend’s semifinals. Luke Butterfield, Dustin Flundra, Jake Vold and Colin Adams weren’t enough points to move on however they were close. Unfortunately, “Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.” as my Dad says. Barrel racers Nina Smith and Katie Garthwaite were in the same boat missing next Sunday’s big show.
Bull rider Ty Pozzobon led the event after Friday however was passed last night and won’t be moving on.
Stay tuned this week for more on Byrne and Larsen on the quest for the biggest prize ever in the sport of rodeo.
RFD-TV’s The American is next Sunday, March 2nd at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.
