Having grown up in the world of rodeo, Australian Bull Rider Josh Birks knows what it takes to compete at the top level. The 23 year old current Canadian World Professional Bull Riders Champion, Elite Professional Bull Riders Canadian Champion, Elite Professional Bull Riders World Champion and the runner up Canadian PBR Finals Champion is seeking to give back to the sport.
Birks is offering a full year scholarship to an Australian bull rider under the age of 18 (as of 30th November 2013). Entrants must email the answers to the following questions to joshbirksbullrider@hotmail.com : What are your achievements to date? – What are your goals for the next twelve months? – Where do you want to be in ten years and what are you doing to make that happen? – What would it mean to you to win this scholarship?
The recipient of the scholarship shall receive: $1,000 to help them get down the road; a new bull rope; six pairs of jeans, six shirts and a weekend one on one with Birks to go over some bull riding basics.
With overwhelming support from Josh’s Facebook community the following incentives have also been added to the scholarship: $1,800 given in two payments over the year; a pair of boots; a pair of custom made spurs; a custom designed cowboy hat; a new gear bag; a new helmet; a new pair of custom made chaps; new bull riding vest; new custom made belt; two new Tiffany Bull riding gloves; buckle; sports taping and injury management/prevention session.
The National Student Rodeo Association (NSRA) will also donate $100 to the winner if they are a current member of the NSRA.
Josh Birks will also donate $2 for every entry received along with an encouragement award. The Encouragement Award winner will receive: $650; a new gear bag; a new cowboy hat; a weekend with Birks going over some bull riding basics and bucking bulls
Additionally, Birks will be offering a scholarship for Australian bull riders between the ages of 18-21 (as of January 1, 2014). To enter entrants must email a video to joshbirksbullrider@hotmail.com answering the following questions and 4 videos of them riding. – What are your achievement this far in your career? – Where do you want to be in the next five years and how are you going to make that happen? – How would you benefit from winning this scholarship? – What would it mean to you to win this scholarship?
Winner of that scholarship will receive a PBR Canada and CPRA memberships for next year paid for by Birks’ sponsors Triangle X, VJV and Vold Rodeo. Birks’s Australian mates donated $1,000 towards a plane ticket to get the winner to Canada.

After moving to Canada in 2012, Australian Josh Birks has qualified for four National Finals events in the Canada, Mexico and the United States. Birks is the current Canadian World Professional Bull riders Champion, Elite Professional Bull riders Canadian Champion, Elite Professional Bull riders World Champion and runner up Canadian PBR Finals Champion. In 2010, at 16, Birks won the Open Australian Bull Riding Title. He also holds 6 Junior Australian Titles.
