HOOey by Cactus: Rope Review

SF_Ad_300wWe’ve all had it happen. You go to the feed store, rodeo or roping and you hear word of the new latest and greatest product. Your friend talks you into trying it and you drop more money than you should only to find out the product is not what your friend, the salesperson or the company advertised.

It was decided here at Everything Cowboy after many of us had experienced the above that we should start trying out these”wonder” products for 30 days and then give an honest opinion on it. Everybody wins. For our first product review on Everything Cowboy we have the HOOey by Cactus Ropes.

*In retrospect, a rope might not be the best thing for us to review as every roper has a varying opinion on what they use. Hind sight is 20/20 folks!

Their description: The HOOey by Cactus Ropes is the first of its kind; tie-down ropers can now experience the feel of a grass rope in a straight poly.  The HOOey is designed to have the least stretch and optimal body of any four-strand rope, and it perfect for tie-down and breakaway ropers of all levels.
My thoughts: As a breakaway roper, I loved the feel of this rope right off the bat. It’s lightweight, balanced and crisp. I personally love four-strand ropes because of the lightweight/strength factor. The four-strand also lets me rope for longer periods of time because my arm doesn’t get tired and it feeds incredibly fast. This straight poly rope does feel very similar to a grass rope but without all the temperamental factors. Another bonus of the straight poly is that it doesn’t have much of that new rope spring, that we often have to stretch out.
I have to disagree with Cactus when they say it’s “the first of it’s kind”, the Shockwave had the same feel/design (which is most likely why it’s no longer being made or marketed by Cactus). The only difference between the two was the color of strand used; HOOey is green, Shockwave was blue/purple.
To Purchase or not to Purchase: Purchase, purchase, PURCHASE. This rope is well worth the money and lives up to the hype.
