Entries Open For Canada’s Biggest Non-Sanctioned Bronc Riding in One Week
Oyen, AB: $15,000 in added money will be up for grabs at the Sixth Annual Travis Winquist Memorial Bronc Riding. $10,000 will be paid out in the Long Go down to eight places with the top six riders coming back to the Short Go. A jacket will also be given to the winner of the Long Go.
$5,000 will be awarded to the highest scored ride in the Short Go along with a $1,000 custom made Troy Fischer Trophy Buckle. “It’ll all be paid out in cash that night” added Bart Winquist, event producer and older brother of Travis.
If you’re already wondering how to get yourself entered, you’ll need to call Bart himself next Monday August 6, 2012 between 9:00am & 5:00pm at 780-581-4267.
There are no entry fees either and last year’s champion, Wyatt Thurston, won over $4,600. That was when there was $5,000 less in added money. The short round alone pays more than that this year. It’s sure to be a spectacular bronc riding with six different contractors providing stock for the night’s event.
In the long round, five different contractors from Alberta and Saskatchewan will be each bringing six horses. Darcy Hollingsworth, Frank Wyzykoski, Jimmy Lawrence, Doug Richards and Carl Barrett are those five guys. Chunky Woodward of the Outlawbuckers Rodeo Company will provide the stock for the Short Go of the event.
A Calcutta will be done on the Short Go as well. 50% of the pot will be awarded to the winner with 25% going to the Big Country Ag Society and 25% going to the Travis Winquist Memorial Fund. Last year’s winner took home about $4,900.
All the action will get underway with a 2:00pm Sponsor BBQ on Friday August 24th, 2012. Once you are entered you are encouraged to get there then since the draw will also take place at that time.
Announcer Barry Boghean will kick off the bronc riding action at 6:30pm at the Oyen Crossroads Center. Wade Rempel and Wade Grover will be the evening’s pick up men.
One event they however will not be picking up is the one during the intermission brought to you by Wild West Environmental and the Founder of the Color of Money Ranch, Barney Creech that’s the Wild Pony Racing. Sure to be crowd pleasing as it always is. Mutton busting will also be featured during the intermission.
Admission for the Sixth Annual Travis Winquist Memorial Brond Riding is $15 Adults, $10 for youth 7-17 years old and kids six and under are free.
For those of you over the age of 18, Cold Shot will be featured in the beer gardens for the remainder of the evening.
The organizers of the Travis Winquist Memorial Bronc Riding would also like to thank their Sponsors. Without them, the event would never be what it is today!
