Buffalo Rodeo to Host All Around Tough Man Competition June 15th

Buffalo-Rodeo2Buffalo, AB: The 39th Annual Buffalo Rodeo takes place on Saturday June 15th at the Buffalo Rodeo Grounds. As usual, Open and Junior Team Roping, Boys Steer Riding, and Open, Junior and PeeWee Barrel Racing will be held in conjunction with the Border Country Rodeo Association. New this year is an “All Around Tough Man” Competition that was brought about by the Buffalo & District Agriculture Society.

It’s a similar format to Canada’s Ultimate Cowboy held by Scott and Julie Wyzykoski in Ponoka over New Years. In Buffalo, Canada’s top All Around Cowboys will compete in four of the five major events. In the rules it reads they must compete in the two timed events and two of the three roughstock events.

With $10,000 in prize money, some may enter all five. Jeremy Harden took the win in Ponoka. He’s entered again along with his brother Josh and Colter. Four Time Canadian All-Around Champion Steve Turner is in as well. Also a Four Time Canadian All-Around Champion, Kyle Thomson is set to compete. Travis Reay, Wyatt Daines and Logan Hodgson all have experience in multiple events and have as equal a shot to win as anyone else. Things will surely be entertaining as we saw in Ponoka.

Multipe time CPRA Announcer of the Year, Joe Braniff will call the day’s events. Attractions for the day include a Beer Gardens and Concession, a Beef Supper, Kids Zone and a dance that minors are allowed to. It’s one of the last ones that kids are allowed to.

The CPRA and PRCA carded Big Stone Rodeo Company is supplying the bucking and timed event stock for the day’s events. Camping is available at the rodeo grounds and a nearby campground.

Entries for the Border Country Rodeo part of things are on June 10th from 9:00AM to 6:00PM at (403) 379-2215. Other events include a Wild Pony Race, Mutton Busting and a Kid’s Catch n’ Keep.
