Vermillion, AB: The 2012 Lakeland College “Buck The Cold” PBR Canada Touring Pro Event took place last night at the Lakeland College Arena in Vermilion, AB. It was a packed house as usual for the well supported community event. The yearly event coincides with the annual Johansen Brothers Bull Riding School. This year Scott Schiffner was also part of the school where Scott Byrne and Curtis Smythe teach the up and coming bull fighters in Canadian Rodeo.

Us bull riders were treated great once again with a full feed of chili before the event and a beer or two after. Thanks again for having us Vermilion! Here’s how the event went last night:

There were a ton of rides made on a great pen of bulls. Armando Davila Rodriguez took the early lead after spurring the Braithwaite bull Northern Lights to an 86 point score.

Not too long after that, Chad Besplug got matched up against the Wild Hoggs Bull Little Joe:

Jared Farley got a re ride on his first bull. 76 Pen Pal, the same bull they won the long go in Winnpeg, MB last week was who he matched up with next. This is how it went:

Bonner Bolton made his first trip to Canada this week and he will be up here until the first week of March in Lethbridge, AB. He took on the Wild Hoggs & Ty Pozzobon Bull originally from Texas by the name of 724 Lost Wages:

After the long round the Top 10 were brought back to the Short Go. I haven’t seen the results posted anywhere yet so I’m not sure on scores.

The short round qualifiers not in any order were:

Armando Davila Rodriguez, Chad Besplug, Tanner Girletz, Jared Farley, Josh Koschel, Budd Willamson, Jesse Van Nek, Marcus Mariluch, Nathan Schaper and Bonner Bolton.

There werent many rides until Bonner Bolton stepped up and rode the Braithwaite bull 740 Hardcore:

Matt Triplett made it to the whistle on the Wild Hoggs bull South of Heaven about half way through for an 85.

It all came down to the final two rides of the short round where the 2011 Canadian Champion drew the great Eno bull Unabomber:

Armando Davila Rodriguez was unable to make the whistle on the Skori Bull Smoke Ring as the last rider out so Chad Besplug ended up the champion in Vermilion once again with a total of 173.5 points on two bulls. Matt Triplett was second not far behind and Bonner Bolton was a close third.

Next up on the PBR Canada Schedule is the Edmonton Invitational tonight at Rexall Place in Edmonton, AB. It’s the 3rd stop on the PBR Canadian Cup Series schedule. With $25,000 in prize money its sure to be one of the best events in Canada all year.
