WPCA Pro Tour – 2019 Strathmore Stampede – Final Results

STATHMORE, Alberta – It was an outstanding weekend as the Strathmore Stampede wrapped up on a hot and sunny Monday afternoon on a good dry racetrack. Capacity crowds and great chuckwagon racing was the order for the entire event, and for the second consecutive year, and the third time in his career in this event, it was Kurt Bensmiller, driving the Versatile Energy Services Outfit, and along with outriders Rory Gervais and Cole Somerville, who captured the 2019 Strathmore Stampede Championship. It’s the second win on the season for Kurt Bensmiller who had previously won at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede earlier this year.

Bensmiller won his third career Strathmore Stampede Championship after posting the best 4-day aggregate time of 4:58.26. That put him 1.42 seconds better than current world points leader Vern Nolin. 2019 Ponoka Stampede Champion Mark Sutherland placed third, 2019 Calgary Stampede Champion Logan Gorst was fourth and Luke Tournier rounded out the top five overall.

On the night, from barrel number 4 in the 9th heat, Kurt Bensmiller took top money after posting the fast time of show with a 1:13.93 and won the day money by 45 one-hundreds of a second over Luke Tournier and Mark Sutherland who were involved in a dead heat in race number 8. Logan Gorst and sophomore driver Josh Hrynyk made out the top five fastest wagons on the night.

The WPCA Pro Tour will now have a quick turn around and will be racing at the Battle of the North in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Racing starts on Wednesday August 7, 2019 and runs through to Sunday, August 11, 2019.
