Stellar Five Canadians to Compete in San Angelo Finals

EDMONTON, AB (April 14th, 2023) – Only the top twelve contestants had to give it everything they had to make it back for tonight’s final round of the San Angelo rodeo. There are five Canadians who have earned their spot in the showdown round with one final shot to walk away with the grand championship in San Angelo.

In the bareback riding, Orin Larsen earned his spot during round one where he was 86.5 points on Storm Cloud and walked away with $1,009. Tonight, he matches up with Straight Jacket out of J Bar J, a horse they have been 89.5 points on. Larsen currently sits in the 43rd spot of the world standings so taking home the win would really build up his momentum.

On the timed event end, Kyle Lucas heads into the final round in the eighth spot after roping one down for eight seconds in round one, and then nine seconds in round two. In round one he placed eighth overall and earned himself $610 total.

Another name we are seeing more of once again in the barrel racing is Lindsay Sears. After competing in two rounds, Sears comes into the finals in the tenth spot. No money was won from this cowgirl, but she remained consistent enough against a tough group of girls for a shot to win it all tonight.

Lastly, two cousins will go head-to-head in the saddle bronc riding once again. Dawson Hay and Ben Andersen have been battling it out all season and will continue the friendly competition within the final round. Hay holds the highest point ride so far during this rodeo from his 90.5-point ride on South Point Gambler from the Pete Carr Pro Rodeo, winning the round and walking away with just over seven thousand dollars. Andersen comes into the finals after his 84.5-point ride on Django where he earned himself $1,421. Tonight, the Eckville cowboy matches up with Watch the Night from Pickett Pro Rodeo, a horse with an average score of 44 points for the 2023 season.

The San Angelo rodeo has a total purse of $360,000 up for grabs. Tonight, will consist of tough competition on both ends of the arena! Check out all the action on The Cowboy Channel at 8:30 PM/ET and stay tuned to our social media and website for all the details.
