2019 Century Downs World Chuckwagon Finals – Rocky View, Alberta – Day Four Results

Night 4 of the inaugural Century Downs World Chuckwagon Finals is in the books, and when it all played out, Ross Knight, Kurt Bensmiller, Jordie Fike and Luke Tournier survived the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Championship Playoff round and will comprise the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Championship Dash where they will be racing for $50,000.00 cash, a horse trailer valued at over $30,000.00, and the prestige of being recognized as the inaugural Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Champion.

Ross Knight finished in first place in the Century Downs “Winners’ Zone” Championship Playoff round after collecting 45 points. Kurt Bensmiller was second with 44 points, followed by Jordie Fike with 40 points. Luke Tournier, Kirk Sutherland and Chanse Vigen were all tied for the fourth and final spot in Sunday’s Championship Final, but Tournier got the nod on the strength of having the best 4 day aggregate time among the three tied drivers. Mark Sutherland, Layne MacGillivray, Codey McCurrach, Cody Ridsdale, Logan Gorst and Vern Nolin were the other drivers who also qualified for the playoff round.

The first title at the Century Downs World Chuckwagon Finals has been handed out as Chad Harden, driving the Kubota/MNP/MLT Aikins/Spartan Controls outfit, and along with outriders Rory Armstrong and Rory Gervais won Century Downs Racetrack and Casino Aggregate Championship.

Harden and crew captured the Aggregate portion of the Century Downs World Chuckwagon Finals after posting the best 4-day aggregate time of 5:34.85. That put him 1.59 seconds faster than rookie driver Chance Flad, with Gary Gorst, Tory Flad and Roger Moore filling out the top five in the overall aggregate standings.

In the race for the World Chuckwagon Championship, Kurt Bensmiller won his fourth World Chuckwagon Championship in five years, including his third consecutive World title by just 29.5 points over Vern Nolin who had been leading the standings for most of the year. 2019 Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby Champion Logan Gorst finished third overall, with Codey McCurrach and Kirk Sutherland rounding out the top five in the season long competition.

On the night, Gary Gorst and his Genalta Power Inc. rig had the fast time after posting a run of 1:23.28 from barrel number 3 in the 8^th heat. Troy Dorchester placed second, with Chance Flad, Chad Harden and Troy Flad making out the five fastest times on the evening.
