2019 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby – Calgary, Alberta – Day Two Results

Night 2 of the GMC Rangeland Derby ran on a warm Saturday night in Calgary. It was a very competitive night of racing, racetrack conditions were slightly slower once again, and when the sun went down on Calgary, Evan Salmond, driving the R.B. Somerville Utilities outfit, took the day money with a run of 1:17.12.
From barrel number 2 in the 6th heat, Salmond was the top wagon on the night by just one one-hundredth of a second over Dallas Dyck. 2016 champion Kirk Sutherland placed third, followed by 2009 champion Chad Harden with 2013 champion Jason Glass filling out the top five on the night.
Chance Bensmiller now sits atop the leaderboard in the overall aggregate standings with a two-day total of 2:36.78. That puts him 6 one-hundredths of a second ahead of two-time finalist Vern Nolin. Day 1 winner Chad Fike sits third, with Logan Gorst and Evan Salmond in 4th and 5th place respectively. Rookie driver Danny Ringuette Todd Baptiste, and Jason Glass make up the top eight after night 2, with Chad Harden and Ross Knight right behind in 9th and 10th respectively.
The Richard Cosgrave Memorial Trophy, symbolic of the Calgary Stampede aggregate winner will be declared after 8 nights on Friday, July 12, and the top 8 in the aggregate on that day will go into “Semi Final Saturday.” The top 4 times from the two semi-final heats on semi on Saturday on July 13 will go into the championship final heat. The winner of the championship final heat will be declared the 2019 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby Champion.
