-Thanks again to Dustin Edwards for writing this piece for us from Friday’s event in Ponoka, AB. Look for more from Dustin from the events he attends!
It was a packed house at the Ponoka Arena Complex for the 2011 Spring Twist Off Bullarama sanctioned by the World Professional Bullriding. 30 WPB riders were on the roster for the long go-round, with 6 riders coming back to the short-go. 6 rides needed, and 6 is what they got. It was CJ Davidson of Worsley, AB with an 83pt ride on the Robinson/Vold bull “Red Dance” that led the long go round. It was the pen of bulls courtesy of Main Event, Kaycee Rodeo, and Robinson/Vold that were the most impressive tonight, bucking off 24/30 cowboys.
The long go round brought back Davidson, along with the other 5 qualified rides which included: Brad Ingersoll(77), Dustin Wynnyk(82), Ben Forrester(73), Ty Patten(79), and Devon Mezei(75). It was pick your poison for the short go round and it was Botha, AB cowboy Devon Mezei who had the luck of the draw. He was the last man to ride and did it in a textbook fashion with a 85 pt ride on Robinson/Vold’s Sling Blade. It brought the crowd to their feet, and gave Mezei the short go win and the average win with a total of 160 on 2 head. It was Buck Lake, AB cowboy Ty Patten who had the only other qualified ride in the short go with a 80.5 pt ride on Robinson/Vold’s Quagmire, and put him 2nd in the average. Great Friday night and a great job by the Ponoka Ag Society!
See you down the road,
Dustin Edwards
