Big Valley, AB: In the sport of rodeo, cowboys become almost likefamily and a very close group. You have your groups of roughies and timeys in rodeo and on the track the drivers and outriders. But when it comes to the Cowboys vs Wagon’s, you’ll see a whole new fued come Friday night.

This year marks the fifth installment of the “Horseshoe Cup.” You may have seen an event preview right here on Everything Cowboy about a month ago. It’s the charity hockey matchup between the CPRA and the WPCA, and it’s worth the $5 admission at the door. This year an additional game has been added to the schedule with the Cowgirls taking on the Wagongirls at 5:00pm as the warm-up event to the Horseshoe Cup. Barrel racer Diane Skocodople has assembled a very talent roster for the cowgirls team that includes Kelly Phipps, Jodi Pobuda, Micki Leveille, Jamie Roworth, Jacey Jones and Tammy Spady to name a few. Charleigh Profit has assemebled the WPCA women and they look to have a good roster assembled including Gina Berreth, Jaycee Bremner, Allison Croteau, and three Profit girls among many more.

In the past four years of the cup, the WPCA and CPRA have each taken the title twice, leaving this year see who will hold the most victories. The CPRA team is coming in with a unique goaltending approach, much like the NHL All-Star game they will run a 3 goalie system. Everything Cowboy’s Ted Stovin, Devon Mezei, and team manager Todd Gallais will all strap on the pads. The forward lines look to have some skill and experience with the likes of Steven Turner, Stacy Cornet, Tanner Girletz, Brett McCarroll, JD Hayes, and Colter Harden on the 15 man roster.
It will be a great night and for a great cause, as all the proceeds will be going to the Cowboy Benevolent Fund. There will be a silent auction at the games along with a live auction at the cabaret to follow. Horseshoe Cup will start at 7:00pm following the ladies game, at the Big Valley Agriplex.Tickets are $5.00 (gives you both games) and $10.00 for the cabaret to follow at the Big Valley Hall. Come support a great cause and watch the stars of rodeo and the wagons lace em up for the covited Horseshoe Cup!
