A Switch for Sandilands

Former Canadian Finals Rodeo and Calgary Stampede Bull Fighter David Sandilands retired from his Professional Bull Fighting Career only last year. Less than a year since then he’s been named the Manitoba Rodeo Cowboys Association Rookie of the Year and Season Leader in the Steer Wrestling, also making an appearance at the Canadian Cowboys Association Finals this past week in Regina, SK.

The first time I met Dave it was up in Grande Prairie I think. He showed me how to run a neck tie so I didn’t wreck my thumbs if something bucked in the chute. I’ll always remember that. He was one of the first guys to congratulate me in Innisfail the day I made my biggest ride at the time in Pro Rodeo to fill my permit.

Dave is a great guy to promote the sport of rodeo. I’m glad to see he’s still involved in a big way. It was great to catch up with him again last week in Regina.

He didn’t have the finals he had hope for however did win some money in round four with this 4.9 second run.

I’m sure we will be seeing Dave win a bunch more buckles in the future in the CCA, MRCA and possibly some other associations. He even talked of roping calves too.

All the best in your new ventures back in the arena!
