AUSTIN, Texas — Clint Laye and Morgan Grant made some ground in the PRCA’s World Standings with wins at Rodeo Austin on Saturday.
Laye won his event outright earning a total check worth $9,803 catapulting him right up to 13th in the PRCA. He’s off this weekend helping J.R. Vezain at a school in Wyoming this weekend but Canadian fans can see him compete in Medicine Hat next weekend.
Fellow bareback rider Luke Creasy picked up $436 in preliminary rounds in Austin. Creasy sits 9th in the PRCA having earned over $22,000 on the year so far. Linden Woods ($773), Kody Lamb ($1,005) and Ty Taypotat ($1,846) all picked up checks in Austin in the rounds and semifinals. On the outside looking in standings wise are: Orin Larsen (20th), Matt Lait (32nd), Ty Taypotat (35th) and Jake Vold (41st).
Morgan Grant’s name is currently 5th in the PRCA all-around leaders. His $7,990 in earnings from the tie-down roping in Austin should put him in the top 40 in the PRCA in that event too. Grant picked up $1,410 in the rounds and split the finals with NFR Qualifier Randall Carlisle for another $6,580 a man.
The next biggest check of the weekend in PRCA competition was out in Florida and won by Zeke Thurston. Unfortunately for Thurston the money doesn’t count where he needs it in the standings but the $5,995 makes his March run worth over $60,000. Not bad for a 20 year-old that still sits 17th in the World Standings currently.
Back to Austin, other placings include: Clay Elliot’s $2,401 to move him up to 8th in the PRCA Saddle Bronc standings; Levi Simpson and Jeremy Buhler who picked up $2,115 a man in Austin and sit 16th and 15th in their respective ends in the PRCA Heading and Heeling Standings; Clayton Moore, $1,998 to sit 30th in the steer wrestling; Matt Mousseau, $705, now 16th; Tanner Milan, $436 along bronc riders Layton Green, $2,349 (18th); Sam Kelts, $1,158; Luke Butterfield, $1,746 and Call Marr, $1,410 who are also ranked inside the top 50 which also includes Dustin Flundra and Tyrel Larsen.
