CLOVIS, California — For not having competed in PRCA rodeos for most of this winter, Zeke Thurston hasn’t taken long to get back to the top end of the standings.
Thurston finished second in Clovis this weekend for a check worth $5,383 which helped shoot him all the way up to 22nd in the world, just under $3,000 back from 15th.
To this point, 13 Canadians rank inside the top 15 in the PRCA world standings in their respective events. They are: bareback riders Orin Larsen, Jake Vold, Luke Creasy, Kyle Bowers, Clayton Moore, Kolton Schmidt, Levi Simpson, Jeremy Buhler, Jake Watson, Tyrel Larsen, Clay Elliott, Layton Green and Sam Kelts.
Cashing in big this weekend were Luke Creasy and Morgan Grant. Creasy picked up $3,816 for a tie of third in Clovis while Grant won the tie-down roping in Lufkin, TX for $3,004 adding another $417 from the steer wrestling. Logan Hofer picked up a check in two of the four rounds in Clovis and finished sixth in the aggregate for $2,343. He’s ranked 20th of all tie-down ropers. Kyle Lucas is 19th and Grant is now 38th.
Also placing this weekend were: Jake Vold for over $1,400 for winning in Camrose, AB; Scott Guenthner and Tanner Milan tied for the win in the third round in Clovis for $1,589 each; Layton Green earned $1,404 for a tie of fifth in Clovis; Sam Kelts, $702 from Clovis; Kody Lamb, $317 from Lufkin, TX and Clay Elliott, $1,946 for second in Lakeside, CA.
