Byrne Leads Lethbridge, Catches Flight to The American
LETHBRIDGE, Alberta — With only hours before his flight to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport in Arlington, Texas, Tanner Byrne left the Bridge City Chrysler/LA Towing in the number one spot.
Byrne is one of only two Canadians with a shot at $1,000,000 in Sunday’s RFD-TV Rodeo named The American.
Tonight though he made sure to get to Lethbridge as the last time he was healthy, he won in this very arena. A few years later, a bunch more miles and he could do that again at the $20,000 event which wraps up Saturday Night at the Enmax Center.
In the long go, Byrne rode Lug Nut from the Wild Hoggs Bucking Bull Company for an 83.5. In the Championship Round it was an 88 on Girletz’s Crack Back Jack.
Second on the night was veteran Scott Schiffner with scores of 83 in the long go and a great 87 in the finals on the Two Bit sensation Bucking Fantastic.
Australian bull rider Kurt Shephard was a half a point back from Schiffner in third place. Shephard was 85 in the long go on Sawyer’s Moves Like Jagger then rode Vold’s Indian Turtle for an 84.5 in the short go.
On that same flight to DFW will be Byrne’s best bud, Ty Pozzobon. Pozzy actually came from DFW yesterday and unfortunately the airline lost his gear bag so he had to borrow some stuff for tonight. That didn’t phase him a bit as he rode both bulls, including this 86.5 on South Side Fade in the Championship round to finish fourth on the night.
Rounding out the top five is Dakota Buttar of Kindersley, SK. Buttar put up a big effort to ride Tree Shaker of Sawyer Bucking Bulls, a bull that doesn’t get rode much.
Featured in the opening, Two Bit Bucking Bulls’ PBR World Finalist 867 Bringing Sexy Back put up the top bull score of the night with a 46 out of a possible 50 against long go leader Jason Malone.
This year’s event format is based on two nights, 60 entries were taken and basically if a bull rider rides both days he could win first and second. The money will be paid out on the overall long go, short go and average.
Below are the unofficial results from day one of the Bridge City Chrysler/LA Towing PBR Challenge at the Enmax Center in Lethbridge.
