CORONATION, Alberta— Current Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Standings Leader, Zane Lambert, rode all four bulls he attempted to win both first and second place at tonight’s 13th Annual Royal Rumbull and take home $5,100 in prize money and a new trophy buckle.
After a couple lower scores in the long go, Lambert made things count in the Championship Round. 87.5 points was the result on the Wild Hoggs Bull, 2 Dark 2 C, for the event win which was his fifth of the season.
Earlier in the Championship Round it was an 86.5 on the Xtreme Bucking Bull, Body Snap which put him in second place on the evening as well. This high a finish in Coronation will move Zane up a couple spots in the PBR World Standings as he sat 44th coming into tonight. It could mean a quick promotion in the next few weeks to the PBR’s Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS).
“It ended up being a pretty good day for me.” Lambert said in an interview after the event. “I’m just trying to keep riding and not get carried away, just ride each bull… It’s been working”
Wild Hoggs’ and Corey Chmelnyk’s 917 Pound the Alarm was the top bull of the night earning 45.5 out of a possible 50 points, a title the paint colored bovine has earned now on three occasions.
PBR World Finalist Dusty Ephrom tied for third with North Dakota’s BFTS mainstay as of 2013, Nathan Schaper. Both Ephrom and Schaper were 84.5 points in the long go of competition.
Rounding out the top five was fellow North Dakota man, Zac Peterson, who sits 34th in the PBR World Standings. His score of 84 helped win him $1,105 on the night.
In the Championship Round, Mexico’s Edgar Durazo got stepped on by Vold’s Big Valley Black.
New this year, as it was done in the beginning, the event was moved outside. “It worked this time, I think it was a good move for sure. Volunteers are hard to come by, it takes a lot of work to do it inside.” Event producer Darin Eno told about the change. “It was always fun riding under lights. You don’t see it too often anymore. As long as the weather cooperates, it’s tough to beat a good old outdoor bullriding. It couldn’t have been any better.”
