Birks on Top in Wanham at the Conclusion of Night One

Wanham, AB: Australia’s Josh Birks leads the Wanham PBR Extravaganza after night one with 179 points on two head. Highlighted by a 90.5 on Vold’s Uncle Buck, his long go score of 88.5 was good enough for a tie of the win there too.

As the current leader, if he’s not matched tomorrow, Birks will face Vold’s VJV Slash at the end of the competition for a chance at a $10,000 bonus. A bonus that counts for all standings too. After a 92.5 in their first meeting last fall in Stavely and a buck-off this spring in Lethbridge, that possible meeting will top the scales for one side of the equation. Who do you think might win that battle tomorrow night in Wanham?

Brian Hervey sits in second thus far with 176 points on two bulls. Brian matched Josh with an 88.5 in the long go on the Thompson Bull Fire Ant. An 87.5 in the Championship Round came on the back of the Thompson Rodeo Bull, Time Will Tell.

In third after the first night of competition at the fourth stop of the 2013 SIGA 3D Bullriding Tour is Tyler Pankewitz. Pankewitz scored 87.5 on Thompson’s Northen Lights in the Championship Round. In the long go, it was an 87 on Kelly Armstrong’s Ram Rod. Two points off on the pick there.

Rounding out the top four is Bowden, Alberta’s Tanner Girletz with 160.5 points on two bulls. Tanner came into the finals in 10th spot. That didn’t matter as he rode Armstrong’s State Trooper, kicking things off with a solid 87.5.

Justin Lloyd got in a bit of a mess with the Two Bit and Morton Bull, Devil’s Wing to take the cake for the wreck of the night.

Bull Riding action resumes tonight starting again at 7:30pm. Until then, these are the unofficial leaders from night one of the Wanham PBR Extravaganza.

1. Josh Birks, 179/2; 2. Brian Hervey, 176/2; 3. Tyler Pankewitz, 174.5/2; 4. Tanner Girletz, 160.5/2; 5. Dakota Louis, 86/1; 6. (tie) Ty Patten and  Zane Lambert, 81.5/1; 8. Aaron Roy, 78/1.
