What’s That Bull for the Delburne Hillbilly Stomp PBR

DELBURNE, Alberta — The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) makes it’s third Canadian stop of 2015 on Friday Night at the Delburne Agriplex.

On the same week that the PBR bucked bulls on Hollywood Boulevard for the premiere of the film The Longest Ride, the world’s premier bull riding tour makes a stop in central Alberta.

Featuring $7,000 in added prize money, the Delburne Hillbilly Stomp starts at 7:00pm and has 30 of Canada’s top bulls and bull riders set to compete.

Below are a few of my picks and thoughts on the match-ups of the night.

Dakota Buttar vs. 917 Dirty Money – The 2014 Canadian Pro Rodeo Association Champion Bull Rider looks to get his first points of the 2015 season with this matchup. Advantage Buttar even though this bull has only been ridden three times in 15 attempts according to ProBullStats.com

Adam Jamison vs. 836 I’m A Punk – This bull looks like he’s got a lot to him and isn’t the easiest one to get by according to his stats noting him being ridden only 20% of the time.

Here’s a question for you all, who is the best, or winningest bull rider ever from New Zealand? I don’t know for sure who it is but after Adam’s 2014 campaign I’d put my money on him being in the upper echelon. I’m going with him placing deep in the long go here too.

Josh Birks vs. 727 China White – Josh got bucked off pretty quick last weekend but in his defense the bull he got on took a long jump out of the chute and went away from his hand. That’s one of the hardest things for a guy to get in any situation. China White shouldn’t pull that move on him but that’s not saying he won’t switch it up mid-ride. Shay Marks made a break-out ride on this bull in Elnora last August and I’m betting on Birks making a break-out ride on his 2015 season on Friday.

Zane Lambert vs. 011 Funky Sam – The stats on this bull show him being un-ridden so far in three attempts. Zane stayed on in Rimbey on Saturday and he’s improving his confidence to get back to the elite league of bull riding. It’s only a matter of time.

Jesse Torkelson vs. 981 Angry Pirate – For Tork’s sake hopefully the third time is the charm with this bull. Angry Pirate got the best of him in their two previous meetings in Merritt, BC and Hillmond, SK in 2014.

Tanner Byrne vs. 8730 Drugstore Cowboy –  I had to ask Tanner why he was entered here in Delburne. At the time I hadn’t paid attention enough to the Built Ford Tough Series schedule to realize that Nampa, Idaho’s event doesn’t start until Saturday. It’s not very often you get to see bull riders of this calibre at Touring Pro events in the spring, you better get your tickets!

Landon Lockhart vs. 225 Second Hand Snuff – Great name first off. The Flying High calves looked good in Rimbey and I bet they are going to look good here again this week. Landon rides great and I’m glad to see him entered in the PBR scene. He’s going to do well and be someone to watch out for this year. 225 is a calf out of 955 Burn it to the Ground now owned by the Calgary Stampede.

Jordan Hansen vs. 734 X Factor – With Curtis Sawyer joining the Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp. this year you’ll be seeing a lot more of their name and their bulls in the programs and headlines in 2015. X Factor is a good draw for Hansen in the long go and this could very well be a re-match. As long as Jordan is in a good spot when this one turns back it should be smooth sailing.

Shay Marks vs. 851 Brahma Boots – One of the Outlaw bulls we’ve seen lots of over the past few seasons, Shay drew a perfect one here in the long go. Look for an electric ride and good score.
