2013 PRCA World Champions brought to you by Boulet Boots

The Class of 2013

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Another year is in the books for the Cowboys and Cowgirls of Professional Rodeo as round ten of the 2013 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo wrapped up this evening at the Thomas & Mack Center. Two of this year’s winners were first-time world champions and the rest, repeat winners.

Of those repeat winners, Trevor Brazile now has 11 All Around titles for 19 overall. Trevor also became the first PRCA Cowboy to ever cross the $5,000,000 mark in career earnings tonight. Sherry Cervi and J.W. Harris have now won four gold buckles. Kaycee Feild now has three, all in a row. Chad Ferley, Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill all now have two world championships. Jade’s are back to back.

Our new champions in 2013 are Shane Hanchey and Hunter Cure. Both have also been to the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton. Hanchey was the 2012 Canadian Champion, Cure finished this year in second place to Clayton Moore by about $8,000. Shane may have had a great week there in Edmonton but it was no where close to the $134,765 this week alone in Vegas. That’s the most any Tie Down Roper has ever won here in Las Vegas at the NFR. Cody Ohl sure put up a good fight, his 6.6 for the round win tonight just wasn’t quite enough after some broken barriers to leave him too far down in the average, which Shane won and even set a new record time for on ten calves.

Also in the Tie Down Roping, 2013 Canadian Champion Timber Moore had a bit of a tough week, he had only won nearly $11,000 coming into the final round. That was until they paid him $22,536 for a fourth place finish in the average bringing his total to over $33,000 at his second NFR.

Coming back to Hunter, he had a huge NFR winning over $108,000. After a miss by Dean Gorsuch, it looked like Cure had sewn things up. Turns out it ended up being by about $15,000. Adding in his CFR winnings, you can make over a $210,000 year for the Holiday, TX cowboy we can now call a world champ.

Sherry Cervi got a bit emotional tonight after accepting her NFR Average saddle. Her total time of 138.15 seconds on ten runs broke the previous record held by Jill Moody which was set in 2010 by 11/100ths of a second. Cervi’s $155,899.43 at the finals alone was over $21,000 more than second place Shane Hanchey for the Ram Top Gun award win.

Fellow Barrel Racer and four time Canadian Champion Lisa Lockhart may not have started the week great but she sure finished well. Three round wins and third in the average paid her $102,163 over the past ten days, that was 10th best of anyone at this year’s finals. A total of $184,201 on the season left her third, adding in the $64,000 she won in Edmonton, that’s nearly a quarter of a million dollar year, her best yet.

J.W. Harris is the first bull rider since Donny Gay to win three world titles in a row. Harris had missed the past two years but is back on track and still en route for eight.

Straws Milan finished his first Wrangler National Finals Rodeo without any money won. He’s still one of the 15th best Steer Wrestlers in the World. Look for him to be back again next year, hopefully with some more Canadians too.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned in the next few days for some stories wrapping up the 2013 Wrangler NFR and season overall.
