LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Lee Graves may not be competing or even hazing at the 2013 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo but his horse Jessie nearly took current world leader Trevor Knowles to a new arena record in the Steer Wrestling. He didn’t realize how fast it was either.
“I wasn’t sure. I felt like I’ve made better runs than that, but I will take it. That was pretty fast.” Trevor said.
Straws Milan is the only other man to be riding Jessie this week. He ran his steer a long ways down the arena for a time of 7.2 to keep himself in the average. Straws’ brother Baillie is hazing for him and Trevor both.
Two Canadian Bareback horses carried their riders to check in round one. Bar C5 Rodeo’s Fabio helped Jessy Davis to an 84.5 point score and a check of over $11,000. Kesler Rodeo’s Starburst was enough for Kaycee Field to add $5,208 to his bank account for the season.
Former Canadian Finalist Shane Hanchey won the round tonight in the Tie Down Roping with a 7.6 second time. With that he moves to sixth place in the World Standings, within three rounds of leader Tuf Cooper.
Shery Cervi topped the field of Barrel Racers tonight with a 13.77 second time to increase her lead to just under $30,000. Calgary Stampede $100,000 champion Sydni Blanchard was a close second at 13.80.
2011 PRCA World Champion Bull Rider Shane Proctor looked a lot healthier tonight compared to when we last saw him at the PBR World Finals. He was 90 on his last bull there which was Wild Hoggs’ 917 Pound the Alarm, tonight it was one point lower at 89 on News Flash. Grand Slam of the Kesler Rodeo Company put Wyoming’s Tyler Willis on the ground before the whistle.
Aaron Ferguson made his NFR debut tonight in the arena as a bullfighter while Gary Rempel saddled up for the eighth time. Thanks to Jack Schneider for a heads up on that stat on Gary.
Tomorrow night we will see three Canadian Bareback horses perform alongside four Saddle Broncs. Northcott’s Get Smart will have a re-match against 2012 World Champ Jesse Wright, his brother Cody has Outlawbuckers’ F-Bomb. Click here for the full draw for round two.
