Round Eight #WranglerNFR Match-Ups

Las Vegas, NV: A few thoughts on Round Eight, Canadian Night at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Bareback

109 Justin McDaniel, Porum, Okla. 171 Mile Away Kesler Rodeo – This horse won the Wrangler Award for the Bareback Horse of the night in the second round when JR Vezain got a score of 85.5. Canadian Champion Vezain picked up a check for nearly $11,000 that day. Justin McDaniel won third last night and can do the same or better here tonight.

91 Casey Colletti, Pueblo, Colo. 181 American Trip Outlawbuckers Rodeo – Raised by Bruce Fewelling, American Trip is a 16 year old gelding that came here to the NFR two years ago in the broncs. This was his first year in the bareback riding. Jake Marshall won Strathmore on her with an 85. After a win in Round Five, Casey has the horse to win again.

Saddle Bronc

7 Jesse Wright, Milford, Utah 256 Get Smart Harvey Northcott Rodeo – In the last two years they have won the $100,000 Calgary Stampede bonus on Get Smart. It was Chad Ferley in 2011 and Wade Sundell in 2012. The ten year old bay gelding is also a three time Saddle Bronc Horse of Calgary. Jesse Wright has a shot to get himself another 90 point ride here and possibly take a stranglehold on first in the world to where it would be nearly impossible to be caught.

90 Bradley Harter, Weatherford, Texas 263 Spanish Pair Kesler Championship Rodeo – Cody Wright didn’t get along with Spanish Pair in Round Three but he still got a 79.5 and won a sixth place check. This horse gives a guy a chance to win every time and it shows by the number of NFR selections. Bradley won his first check last night and should add to that tonight.

75 Sterling Crawley, College Station, Texas 226 Peigan Warrior Calgary Stampede – A seven year old gelding, Peigan Warrior has also been here to the NFR in the Bareback. Sterling won $4,711 last night to bring his total to just over $14,000.

97 Cody Samora, Cortez, Colo. 365 Whiskey Jack Kesler Rodeo – Cody Samora hasn’t stayed on a bull here yet but he’s got one he should like tonight. Cody Teel won Round Three on Whiskey Jack and like you can see in this video where Zane Lambert was 90 on him in Medicine Hat, he’s been pretty consistent. My prediction is that Samora will ride Whiskey Jack tonight and really break his buck off streak in fine fashion.
