Cooper makes tie-down roping move at 95th Cody Stampede

CODY, Wyo.; July3, 2014 — With a star-studded field in the tie-down roping at the third performance of the Buffalo Bill Cody Stampede, it was no surprise to see fast times and contestant’s hoping to win a portion of the $340,000 purse here.

Included were former world champions Trevor Brazile and Tuf Cooper from Decatur, Texas. Reigning world champion Shane Hanchey from Sulphur, La., also competed along with Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifiers Clint Cooper, Decatur, Texas; Clif Cooper, Decatur, Texas; Trent Walls, Stephenville, Texas; Sterling Smith, Stephenville, Texas; and Tyson Durfey, Colbert, Wash.

The fast time of the night went to Tuf Cooper at 7.8 seconds, part of a three-way tie for second place. The two-time world champion is also the current world standings leader in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association with $71,188. He has a substantial lead over the man in second place, Hanchey, who has $46,969. Hanchey had an 8.5 second run on Thursday.

The lead in the tie-down roping here is being held by Randall Carlisle from Baton Rouge, La., who has a 7.7. But with the all of the rodeo’s prize money being paid in one round of competition, Tuf Cooper still stands to get a healthy check if no one moves ahead of him during the last performance on Friday.

There is a new leader in bareback riding. Caleb Bennett from Morgan, Utah scored 85 points on C5 Rodeo’s Good Times. The two-time NFR qualifier was ninth in the world standings before competing at the 95th edition of the Cody Stampede.

Ty Pozzobon, from Merritt, British Columbia took the lead in bull riding by two points after riding Frontier Rodeo Company’s Centerfold to a 92. Pozzobon is 25th in the world standings and needs to earn enough money to be among the top 15 who qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. A good check here will certainly help him in that endeavor.

Action at the 95th edition of the Cody Stampede continues at Stampede Park on Friday with the last performance beginning at 5 p.m. Rodeo fans across the country will be able to watch it live at www.wranglernetwork.com. Live results will be available @codystampede on twitter. More information is also available at www.codystampederodeo.com or codystampederodeo on Facebook.
