YORKTON, Saskatchewan — I cannot believe we are already in November.
This year sure has flown by up to this point. Now that the CFR has come and gone, we can now focus on the remainder of the PBR Canada schedule. The final event of season takes place this weekend in Yorkton, SK, and is the final opportunity for riders to earn valuable points heading into the PBR Canada Finals.
Yorkton boasts a roster with likes of newly crowned Canadian Champion Wacey Finkbeiner, three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy, and the two-time and reigning PBR Canada Champion Zane Lambert. Along with the elite pen of bulls heading out there, Yorkton is shaping up to be a heater of an event!
The first annual Yorkton Grain Millers Harvest Showdown PBR Challenge takes place November 9th and 10th, at the Gallagher Centre.
Wacey Finkbeiner vs. Z1 Uptown Funk
Coming off his first Canadian Championship and 5-for-6 performance at this years edition at the CFR Wace is absolutely on fire. Watching him ride at last week in Red Deer I could see that he was full of confidence and having fun, aside from aggravating a nagging hip injury I think Wace is relatively healthy which is another advantage for him. He has drawn a cool spotted up spinner from Chris Hanson and the Rafter 8 bucking bull crew tonight. Uptown Funk should hop out and turn back to the left and be a day off for the Champ.
Jake Gardner vs. 37 Kool Aid
Jake is another guy who had a great week at the CFR in Red Deer, he went 3-for-6 and ended up winning his first Canadian All Around title. On the PBR side of things Jake finds himself 14th in the PBR Canada National Standings, and he will be looking to solidify his spot this weekend in Yorkton. He is matched up tonight against Kool Aid from the R-Saga firm, this an awesome bull that should fit Jake perfectly. In fact, Aaron Roy rode this bull for 88.5 points earlier this summer at the Manor Fun Daze event. If Jake has his mixture right (as Doug Young would say) we could see a big time score here.
Jared Parsonage vs. 319 Plenty Cool
Jared left Red Deer last week with a bit of a sour taste in his mouth due to a sub par performance at the CFR, so he will be rolling in to Yorkton with a vengeance. Sitting in the No. 4 spot in the PBR Canada National Standings, Jared is well in reach of a PBR Canada National Title. He should be able to help the cause here matching up against Plenty Cool again from the Rafter 8 firm, this bull will be right in the door to the right and will fit Jareds style to a T.
Cody Coverchuk vs. 402 Legolas
Covy had an outstanding rookie season in the CPRA and an even better CFR last week. He was the only other rider to go 5-for-6 last week, and even claimed the CPRA Rookie of the Year and Permit Award honours. Also, Cody is sitting second in the PBR Canada National Standings and is well in contention for this years PBR Canada Championship. My rodeo dad Craig Stevens sent me a video of the bull Covy has drawn here, and I don’t think he could have hand picked one that will fit his style as good as Legolas. This bull will go out and turn back to the right away from Covy’s hand, which as we saw at the CFR, should be no problem for him tonight.
