CLUNY, Alberta – It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Cowboy Christmas is upon us and the busiest time of the season is in full gear.
The first stop is the Cluny Lions Charity PBR, back for a third consecutive season this has become one of the marquee events on the PBR Canada schedule. Slim Wilson and his family work tirelessly to ensure that the event goes off without a hitch and that the fans are treated to some outstanding bull riding action.
After looking at the event draw I can assure you that this will be one of the best line-ups of bulls and bull riders that you will see anywhere. With the likes of 2017 PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood, Lonnie West, Aaron Kleier, Brennon Eldred and my picks below on the roster, fans are in for a top-notch night of action at Coulee Creek Farms.
Cluny is the kick-off event to five days straight of PBR Canada Events that includes three nights at the legendary Ranchman’s PBR event in Calgary, Alberta and another Touring Pro Division event on Friday night north a few hours in Edgerton, Alberta. With the high volume of events on tap, we are definitely going to see some movers and shakers in not only the PBR Canada National Standings, but the PBR World Standings as well.
To sum it all up: if you don’t have Canada Day plans, you have some now. Head on out to Coulee Creek Farms and enjoy some of the best talent the PBR has to offer. There is a beef on a bun supper running from 4-6 pm prior to the event, supper is $15 and $5 for kids under 12. The PBR actions begins at 6 pm sharp, so be sure to show up early to ensure you get a good seat. Admission is $20 and kids under 12 get in for free.

Here is a look at some of my favourite matchups on Monday night:
Shay Marks vs. 390 Little Kenny
The No. 4 man in the PBR Canada National Standings will be looking to get a on roll heading into the busiest time on the PBR Canada schedule. Shay has had a great start to the season and he will be looking to continue that trend here in Cluny. He has drawn Little Kenny from Slim Wilson and the Wilson Rodeo crew, this is a great draw for Shay. He should turn back into Shay’s hand and give him a great opportunity to be back for the championship round.
Gage Gay vs. 356 Waiting on You
Fresh off his return to competition earlier this month Gage will be making the trip north of the border to try and make up some ground in the PBR World standings. The North Carolina cowboy has been one of the top talents in the PBR for the last number of years and he will be hoping to get back to his winning ways in Cluny. Although I do not know a lot about the bull he is matched up with on Monday night you can guarantee that Gage will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
Dakota Buttar vs. 792 Big John
Dakota has arguably been the hottest guy heading down the road in the PBR over the past month. After getting the green light to return to action as opposed to season ending shoulder surgery, Dakota has wasted no time getting back into the winners circle. With two massive event wins earlier in June in Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat, Dakota has battled his was back inside the top 35 bull riders in the world, while also locking down the No. 5 spot in the PBR Canada National Standings. Big John is a really cool bull that comes from the Two Bit Nation, this bull should be no trouble for Dakota and could produce some massive numbers.
Chase Outlaw vs. C99 Pretty in Prison
The CEO of the Outlaw Nation is bringing his talents north of the border with his first stop being in Cluny. The No. 4 man in the PBR World Standings is on a mission this season with only one thing on his mind… a gold buckle. With his past success in Canada don’t be surprised if he sets the world on fire heading into the next number of events. Pretty in Prison better bring his A-game Monday night if he hopes to slow Chase down.
