HOUSTON, Texas — Four Canadians have already advanced to the semifinals of RodeoHouston at NRG Stadium through the first two brackets. On Wednesday night, three more are in contention.
All four in Super Series III have been Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifiers. Of those four, Jake Vold (Ponoka, AB) has had the least amount of luck and would need to win the round and have the rest of the crew buck off for him to advance.
In better shape are Clint Laye, (Provost, AB) who’s already punched his ticket to the next round with $4,000 in earnings from two checks, a tie for first worth $2,500 in round one and $1,500 for a tie of second in round two of the third bracket on Tuesday night.
Fellow bareback rider Orin Larsen (Inglis, MB) isn’t far behind having earned $2,500 on the back of a pair of Calgary Stampede bucking horses, Tootsie Roll and Twin Cherry respectively.
Ponoka, AB’s 2016 All Around Champion of Canada, Luke Butterfield is fourth in Super Series III so far having brought in $1,188 to date. Butterfield split third in round one, was fourth on Tuesday night and can move on today. Both of his checks have also come on Calgary horses, Simply Marvelous and Weary Joe.
Having moved on so far to the RodeoHouston semifinals are: Tyrel Larsen, Jake Watson, Layton Green and Cody Cassidy. Barring any further changes, nine more Canadians are set to compete in the final two series from Houston.
