Get Ready Red Deer, It’s Time for #CFR45

The 45th edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo, presented by RAM begins on October 30th at Westerner Park in Red Deer, Alberta.

RED DEER, Alberta – On January 16, 2018 it was officially announced that the Canadian Finals Rodeo was moving to Westerner Park.

For the past 44 years, the CFR as it’s known, was created, and took place, in Edmonton, Alberta.

Tomorrow is the official beginning of the ten-year agreement with the Red Deer Chamber of Commerce, Westerner Park and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association (CPRA).

RELATED: Why Westerner Park

The sport of Rodeo in Alberta is part of our heritage. When the settlers first made their way west from the more populated east they rode horses, walked, rode in a wagon or took a train. Before the trails were built, the cowboys broke trail on horseback. Canada was built on the backs of cowboys, many of us are still fed by them today.

There’s a bit of Cowboy in all of us and this is our way to celebrate it. We welcome you to the national championships in our country. It’s the best of the best, the cream of the crop and this week can be life changing.

One young lady, 13 years-old Taylor Manning, can win more money in a week than some of us make in a year.

CFR 45 welcomes history with all three of the Larsen brothers from Inglis, Manitoba qualifying in a different roughstock event. Orin in the bareback, Tyrel in the saddle bronc and Kane in the bull riding.

As one of the greatest bull riders ever in the history of the sport in Canada, we are all going to witness the retirement of Mr. Scott Schiffner. His record of 17 qualifications to this very event will likely never be broken. To put it into perspective, the next closest in this year’s field is 25 year-old Jordan Hansen with six.

For 38 years Schiffner has been leading by example, living the life he wants to live. He’s shown us that if there were maybe a few more cowboys and cowgirls in this world it would likely be a better place.

The venue may be smaller, but you can bet your ass it’s going to be louder. After 44 years, it’s a fresh start, it’s exciting. The rodeo is going to be different, but the people won’t.

Get ready Red Deer, because it’s time for the one and only, Canadian Finals Rodeo.
