2025 Ponoka Stampede – Ponoka, Alberta

It was hot evening of racing both weather wise and excitement wise on night 5 at the Ponoka Stampede. After two very exciting semi-final heats, the $75,000.00 Tommy Dorchester Sudden Death Championship Final Heat to decide the 2025 Ponoka Stampede Championship has now been set as Chanse Vigen, Evan Salmond, Jamie Laboucane and Logan Gorst will make up Tuesday’s final.

Chad Fike was the odd man out, just 22 one-hundredths of a second out of fourth place, followed by Obrey Motowylo, Kurt Bensmiller and Mitch Sutherland. It’s the first time since the Ponoka Stampede introduced the semi-final format in 2012 that all four wagons came out of the same semi-final heat. All four finalists ran in heat number seven tonight.

For the fourth time in five runs, Chanse Vigen and his McWilliam Automotive & CBI Solar outfit claimed the Alberta AG Centre Fast Time of the Night after posting a very rapid time of 1:12.33 from barrel position number one in the seventh heat. Evan Salmond placed second overall from the same semi-final heat number seven, 86 one-hundredths of a second behind Chanse Vigen. Race Croteau Jr. was third, Jordie Fike placed fourth, with Jamie Laboucane filling out the top five runs on the night. Six of the eight semi-finalists all placed inside the top ten on night 5.
