6. Thurston claims back to back Stampede titles

CALGARY, Alberta — There was one lone Canadian to earn one the of big checks at the 2016 Calgary Stampede.

That lone Canuck? None other than 22 year-old phenom and now back-to-back Stampede Champion, Zeke Thurston of Big Valley, AB.

“I was like ‘this is kind of deja-vu’ because I had Awesome last year and was 89 on him, and today I was 87 on him,” Thurston told Dianne Finstad for the Stampede’s website in July. “Then going to go to the four round and to have Spring Planting, I was like ‘man, I’ve seen this before’. It was kind of crazy.”

“I’ve been very blessed to have had some success, especially at the biggest rodeo in the world.”

That comment on the biggest rodeo in the world doesn’t include that one in December, but that one is for another time…
