PUEBLO, Colo (October 22, 2018) – PBR (Professional Bull Riders) and INFR (Indian National Finals Rodeo) today announced a full slate of coverage for the 43rd annual INFR Finals on October 23-27 at South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
RidePass, the PBR’s western sports digital network, will bring fans live coverage of the ten rounds of competition each day of the five-day event at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. MT. Anthony Lucia will serve as lead play-by-play announcer.
The INFR Finals, visiting Las Vegas for the 11th year, features 32 contestants per event in timed events, 22 per event in rough stock, and 33 in Junior/Senior events. Athletes representing more than 75 tribes across North America will be competing for more than $500,000.
Fans will see some of the best rodeo athletes in the world, including PRCA’s elite including Derrick Begay (eight-time WNFR Qualifier/Team Roping), Dustin Bird (five-time WNFR Qualifier/Team Roping), and Coleman Proctor (five-time WNFR Qualifier/Team Roping).
Additionally, 12 year-old Rocksie Marchand and her horse Roo are back to defend their gold buckle, which they won last year when Rocksie became the youngest INFR World Champion in history.
INFR is also a family affair: This year, three generations of Cummings – George, son Casey and grandson Tobin – will compete against each other in team roping.
The INFR will be offered to fans at $19.99 for a pay-per-view event pass. Fans can also purchase a $49.99 annual RidePass membership, which also includes coverage of World Series of Team Roping (WSTR) and United States Tam Roping Championship (USTRC), premier rodeo events from WCRA (World Champions Rodeo Alliance), and the PBR World Finals.
“The INFR is honored to partner with the PBR,” said Bo Vocu, President, INFR. “Our partnership will create wonderful opportunities for our elite Native athletes. Our association with PBR and RidePass will also allow our great fans access to our event via the Nation’s leading online western sports media source.”
“Our partnership with the INFR, the world’s oldest and largest Indian rodeo organization, reflects the PBR’s ongoing support of the Native American community,” said Sean Gleason, CEO, PBR. “We’re very excited to bring fans the INFR Finals via RidePass, and shine a light on these talented rodeo athletes.”
In 1976, Indian cowboys and cowgirls came together at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City, UT to compete against each other in the first-ever Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR). INFR is, by far, the largest and oldest Indian Rodeo Organization in the world. The INFR also works with a variety of youth rodeo associations as well the National High School Rodeo Association and the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, creating a natural progression for athletes climbing from the ranks of youth and college rodeo to professional rodeo. The INFR currently has 11 Regions within the United States and Canada with members ranging from 8 years of age to 80. Indian Pro Rodeo is one of the only sporting events where children can compete with their parents and grandparents. More than 400 qualified contestants compete in the 8 major events and 5 Junior / Senior events, representing 75 Tribes.
In 2006, the INFR Commission added the INFR Tour concept as a way to qualify to the INFR. Contestants travel thousands of miles to attend tour rodeos to earn the points needed to qualify for the INFR. Entries at the tour rodeos vary based on the added purse money. Athletes may also qualify for the INFR through region spots, either as year-end Champion or sudden-death winner. In 2010, the Commission added Junior and Senior events to the finals to help protect the future of Indian Rodeo while paying respect to elder cowboys and cowgirls.
