Bassano, AB: “Come for the Bulls, Stay for the Band!” Reads the sign put up last week near Bassano on The Trans Canada Highway.
Now into it’s Fifth Year, it’s an event that’s very focused on the bull side of things. Ken McGinnis told of how the last few years it’s been tough to get enough qualified rides to fill the Short Round.
When you bring together some of Canada’s best up and coming bulls all paying an entry fee to compete themselves, chances are you’ll get some rank ones.
In the long round, it will be all three year old bulls competing in their own competition called the derby. This year there will be upwards of 19 Contractors bringing their future super stars.
2:00pm the Futurity featuring two year old bulls all competing as well will mark the start of the day’s festivities.
7:00pm will mark the start of the Elite Professional Bull Riding Event.
$5,000 in Added Prize Money is up for grabs with Two Bit Bucking Bulls, Prescott Bucking Bulls and Canadian Buckers bringing the short round stock.
The draw will be done the day of the event once all the bulls and riders are there.
Ty Prescott, Scott Waye and Levi Hale will be bull fighting with Buck & Brad Christman Judging the bull riding.
Jeff Marn out of Montana is on his way up to Announce this year’s event.
Another huge highlight to the event will be the Junior Bull Riding between the Long Go and the Short go of the EPB Bull Riding. There’s also hand made Frontier Trophy Buckle to be presented to the event champion.
Six of the top up and coming bull riders will all make their way to Bassano for a shot at the $2,450 winner take all prize.
Recent Alberta High School Rodeo Champion Cawl Braithwaite, Brothers Lonnie & Billy West, Tristan Carlier, Border Country Champ Brody Heigel and Ty Ellis all will have their shot at probably one of the biggest prizes they may see all year.
Make sure you set your plans up so you can “Stay for the Band.” Ain’t no Rodeo will be the feature entertainment in the Beer Gardens. They will get started at 9:00pm.
It’s sure to be another great edition of the Southern Classic this coming Friday!
