Pennington Victorious in Drayton Valley

Drayton Valley, AB: 2011 CFR Qualifier Miles Pennington was last night’s champion of the 5th Annual Rod Wilson Memorial Bull Riding held at the Drayton Valley Omniplex.

Pennington was one of the first men to ride in the long go of competition and set the bar high right off the bat with an 85 point score on the mean, black brockle faced Thompson Rodeo Bull Northern Lights.

Jordan Hansen put out a ton of effort to get a score of of 77.5 on the Thompson bull Naughty by Nature that spun away from his hand. He nearly got caught in the well but was able to get himself out and make 8.

Not long after that Dakota Petersen put out even more on a tough to ride bull by the name of Simply Irresistible brought to the event by Bart Thompson. His score came back as a 79 after Matt Stroschein and Marty Ward added up their numbers. Neal Wallator was 82.5 on the 4C’s bull #90 owned by Darrell Callan.

2007 PBR Canadian Champion as well as Two Time CFR Qualifier Tyler Pankewitz who grew up just down the road in Warburg, AB made a solid ride on the Rick Siegel bull Sunny. That set him in a spot where he might make the short round at 77 points.

Another up and coming bull rider, Wyatt Gleason was 80 points on the Rick Siegel bull Tuffy near the end of the long go to make his way into the top 6 short round.

With the short round set, each bull rider picked their bull for the short round. As it turned out, the bulls were a bit too difficult to ride and no one qualified on their short round mount.

So here’s how things shaped up when the money was paid out.

  1. Miles Pennington 85 pts – $2104.25
  2. Neal Wallator 82.5 pts – $1653.00
  3. Wyatt Gleason 80 pts – $1201.75
  4. Dakota Petersen 79 pts – $750.50
  5. Jordan Hansen 77.5 pts – $299.25
  6. Tyler Pankewitz 77 pts – $166.25

It was another great edition of the Rod Wilson Memorial Bull Riding put on by Rod’s Family. Thank you to everyone involved in making the event a success once again. From what they said during the event’s intermission you can look forward to another bull riding in Drayton Valley in 2013.

The next stop of the 2012 Elite Professional Bull Riders Tour will be next Friday night in New Sarepta, AB.
