Calgary, AB: Last week we talked about the PBR and their ride of the year. This week we are going to discuss what the highlight of the year in the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association should be leading into the Canadian Finals Rodeo which is only just over two weeks away.
This one is only going off of those videos that are available on YouTube that were found. If there’s something else that you think is worthy or should be the highlight of the year, write your thoughts in a comment below!
Go on over to the Everything Cowboy Facebook page to cast your vote as well.
Until then, here are my thoughts and a few videos of some of the best rides and runs.
At the start of the year, Zane Lambert was looking to make his way to his first CFR. It was looking good right from the start. Especially in Medicine Hat when he rode the bull that would end up winning Bull of the Year, Kesler’s Whiskey Jack.
A lot of these highlights are coming from the Ponoka Stampede. It’s the biggest rodeo of the year. If you win there, you’ll be at the CFR. Shane Hanchey didn’t win there alone. He won everywhere on his way to a $36,000 season here in the CPRA.
Ty Pozzobon winning the Canadian Pro Rodeo Tour Finals on the Franklin Bull 634 Team Paige with the highest marked bull ride of the year at 90.25 points.
Dusty LaValley made the best Bareback ride of the year in the CPRA with this 90 point score during the Showdown Round of the Ponoka Stampede on the Bar C 5 horse Make Up Face.
Tanner Milan came back from injury this year to make his way to yet another CFR. A lot of that qualification was in part to his huge win in Ponoka with this run. You can see how many people are pulling for Tanner when they run out after him as he makes his way into the arena.
Gingas Kong was raised by Ellie Skori and bought by the Calgary Stampede this summer. Tanner Girletz and Aaron Roy rode him for scores of 88 and 90 resepctively last September. This year, Ty Pozzobon was the only man known to ride him with this big 90 point score to win the White Lightning Dodge Pro Cowboy Crunch in Oyen, AB on July 25th. This one would be my pick as I think Pozzy should have been a point or two more on this occasion.
Carlee Pierce is this year’s CPRA Season Leader in the Barrel Racing. She won darn near every dollar on her season here in June and July on her way to a $32,000 regular season.
Those are the choices with the videos. What do you think the highlight of the year in the CPRA was in 2012 excluding the CFR? There will sure be some more come November 7th to 11th.
