What’s That Bull for the White Lightning Dodge Pro Cowboy Crunch – July 24th, 2013

Oyen, AB: 2013 Marks the 15th year there has been a White Lightning Dodge Pro Cowboy Crunch in Oyen. For the past few year’s it’s been an event sanctioned by the CPRA.

With the money won counting to the 40th CFR come November, this event attracts Canada’s best. It starts this year at 7:00pm but you’ll need to get there early if you want to get a good seat. Last year people were there hours early to get a seat.

For more on Wednesday’s Dodge Pro Cowboy Crunch, check out last year’s story leading into the event.

These are my thoughts on a few of the evening’s match-ups on who might come out on top.

Tyler Pankewitz vs. Trendon – Ty Elliot rode this Wild Hoggs Bull in Merritt for 86.5 at the start of June. In that trip he started right, and came back to the left. For Pank’s consideration I think it would be ideal if this bull went to the left and stayed in it. That’s what he did with Tanner Byrne in the Short Go at the Curtis Leschyshyn Invitational in Langham, SK a few weeks later. I’m going with an 86 here.

Todd Chotowetz vs. Morning Breath – Currently, Todd sits 18th in Canada after a pretty solid start to the year. A draw like this could really do him some good. This bull isn’t ridden much. Last year’s champion, Ty Pozzobon rode him in his hometown of Merritt in June. I think Chotowetz comes through here for the same score.

Tanner Girletz vs. About to Blow – I think Tanner must be pumped to have this bull of Josh and Tamara Berezay’s. We hadn’t seen this one for a while up until Saturday in Manor. It’s good to see him back. With this event on Wednesday being very near to Tanner’s home town we could see a big score. Scott Schiffner was one of the first guys to ride this bull last fall in Lloydminster, SK. I’m saying 87 and the long go win. It looks like Tanner has already got the CFR made. Every dollar counts but the weight is off his shoulders now.

Ty Patten vs. Mambor #5 – Jordan Hansen got in all sorts of a mess just a few days ago in Manor with this bull for the wreck of the night. Ty watched the video the other day and didn’t seem to be phased by the wreck on tape. He was too busy looking at how to take on his mount. Two Bit’s Mambo # 5 should help Ty get up another spot or two in the Canadian Standings. Look for an 85 here. Ty might even spur this one after missing Morris and Maple Creek this weekend.

Tanner Byrne vs. True Grit – Tanner may have won $35,000 in Calgary two weeks ago but that doesn’t count in the CPRA. He’s got to put the hammer down and do some winning to make the CFR again. Last year he was the average champion and I expect he thinks noting but the same would be a sub-par year. Girletz’s True Grit is a bull that he can get back to that six man short go on too. As per usual, look for some spurs flying from the former event champion right here in Oyen.
