OYEN, Alberta — Wednesday Night the Canadian Pro Rodeo Association Bull Riders make their way into Oyen RCMP Centennial Park for the 16th Annual White Lightning Dodge Pro Cowboy Crunch.
$10,000 in added prize money is up for grabs with all monies counting towards this coming November’s Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.
Seats are taken up early so get there well beforehand!
2006 Canadian Champion Bull Rider Tanner Girletz, who grew up in nearby Cereal, comes to us today with his thoughts on a few of the match-ups to look out for.
Todd Chotowetz vs. Rosin Fire – This is a great young bull of Wild Hoggs. I have only seen him a couple of times and when I did I liked him a lot. Shay Marks was 85.5 on him not that long ago. Todd has been struggling a little bit but with an easy weekend and a wedding last weekend he’s fresh and has drawn great. Look for anther 85 plus and Todd to show his skills in the short round.
Lonnie West vs. Bucking Fantastic – This is Loonie’s maiden voyage on the pro scene as far as I know. What a better way to start then one of the most prolific bulls in Canada. Bucking fantastic of two bit bucking bulls. This little guy might be getting towards the end of his career but he’s still an awesome draw. Lonnie rides great and he will really like this ol boy. Look for a great rookie to ride a great veteran for a trip back for another one.
Scott Schiffner vs ZZ Top – This bull came from Allen Girletz and has been outstanding. At the Ranchman’s Bull Riding he was marked 46.5 bucking off PBR World Finals competitor Matt Triplett. He should be right into the door to the left which is usually a cowboys disadvantage. However, during the Calgary Stampede Scott made one of the better rides away from his hand that I have seen not only him but anyone make this year, and it was for $100 g’s. Look for the round win here and Scott to start his charge for the CFR.
Dakota Buttar vs Idiot Proof – Number one man in Canada, that’s all you need to say. This kid doesn’t fall off too often, and that will be the case again here. Bull will be right there to the left and so will Dakota. This bull has two different trips, on his day you can be 90, if not you can be 86 so either way he will be back.
Look for a great event that my family and the whole town of Oyen work very hard to produce. Hope everyone has a great time and rides great!
