Elnora, AB: Bulls & Bikes is what the poster for the 15th Annual Elnora Brahma Rama reads. The FXM Freestyle Motocross Team performs all of Saturday Night throughout the Canadian Pro Rodeo Association (CPRA) Bull riding action beginning at 7:30pm. Admission is $20 a person with families invited for $50 each preschool free.
Kicking off the day is the Fireman’s Pancake Breakfast with the arena gates opening at 4:00pm. A Lil Tyke’s rodeo opens things up with more wild Pony Racing before seven. There’s also a silent auction and of course a beer gardens and a steak supper. Wrapping things up on Saturday or just getting them started for some of the Family Dance featuring Cumberland after the Bull Riding. Admission is included with your ticket to the event or $10 for the dance only. Camping is free all weekend.
Saturday may be the weekend highlight but downtown Elnora kicks off the weekend’s activities with the Servus Credit Union’s Pancake Breakfast on Main Street Friday Morning. Gates open Friday afternoon at 4:00pm with a Tub Race starting at 4:30 followed by a Wild Pony Race and Bull Futurity. Admission is $5 per person with preschooler’s getting in free.
Below are my thoughts on a few of Saturday’s match-ups for the 15th Annual Elnora Brahma Rama. The event’s first time to be sanctioned with the CPRA.
Tyler Pankewitz vs. T Bird’s Danger Ranger -Pank won this event last year, this Two Bit Bucking Bull now called T Bird’s Danger Ranger is going to give him a dam good shot at that repeat title. I’m not sure if he’s been on him before but he should get along well and get back to the short go in good shape after an 85 or so. Tyler is right in the mix of making the 40th Edition of the Canadian Finals Rodeo but a win here would darn near ensure it. T Bird’s Danger Ranger helped Tanner Girletz to an 84 at the PBR Canadian Finals last November.
Tyler Thomson vs. Back on Track – Tyler is right on the bubble to make the CFR right now too and needs to win some more to be in there for sure. Back on Track is a black and white paint looking bull that comes from the Wild Hoggs firm. 856 spins to the left nearly every time right in the gate. He hasn’t been ridden a ton but Thomson will for an 86 minimum to place deep in the Long Go.
Ty Patten zigged when the then Black Chicago zagged exactly one year ago from today in Eatonia.
Garrett Green vs. Turn Me Down – Like everyone else, Garrett is on the bubble. A missed flight to Abbotsford was one of those missed opportunities where he could have helped himself out by getting on another bull. Luckily the draw is on his side for Saturday in Vold’s Turn Me Down. I haven’t seen many guys fall off this one. I expect about an 84 with this match-up. #PressureBull
Most recently, Josh Birks rode the big yellow muley for an 88.5 in Wanham back in June.
Devon Mezei vs. Gretzky – Devon too is on the cusp. Unlike some others, 2013 could be his seventh trip to Edmonton in November. Not bad for a guy who’s in his mid twenties. Gretzky is a big jersey looking bull that comes from Curtis Sawyer that they’ve only rode once to my knowledge. Ty Pozzobon was the man for an 88 at the Jace Harty Memorial in Ponoka in June. Devon rides him in Elnora Saturday and the crowd goes wild when they hear two-time CPRA Announcer of the Year Brett Gardnier announce an 88.
