Pozzobon Picks up Cochrane Classic Title

COCHRANE, Alberta — After winning Saturday’s Cochrane Classic Bull Riding, Ty Pozzobon wishes his $5,118.88 in earnings counted towards the PRCA’s World Standings.

Currently 36th in the PRCA, the check would come in handy, but it won’t count this year. Luckily it does help Pozzobon’s cause in making another appearance at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton.

According to the last set of standings here in Canada he was seventh. That may be totally wrong since the standings were last updated on July 12th but it’s all we’ve got. What we know for sure is that it usually takes around $20,000 to make the CFR in the bull riding. Add $5,500 from this weekend including Bruce, to the BC man’s $11,888 previously won, and he’s getting awfully close to getting back to the City of Champions.

With as great a bull rider as Ty is, there’s no doubt in my mind we will see him back at the CFR contending for a Canadian Championship.

In Cochrane, Pozzobon won round one on a bull called Blue Jean Baby from the Carlier Family’s X6 Ranch at 86 points. That paid $1,532.60. In the finals he would be the only man to ride putting up a big 87.5 on Wrangler’s Extreme from Todd Braithwaite to add $919.56 that counts to the standings and another $1,379.34 in ground money. Add in the aggregate and Pozzobon takes home $6,498.22 from Cochrane. You can’t forget a fifth place in check worth $407.77 from Bruce which makes his weekend worth nearly $7,000.

Zane Lambert looks to have won enough this year to make his way back to the CFR this November. Lambert’s 85.5 on Indian Turtle in the video playlist below left him in second place on the evening at the Cochrane Classic to pick up over $3,300. That money and some more from the eastern run push him past the $20,000 mark on the year.

Beau Hill picked up a solid check to help his hopes of returning to Edmonton placing third on the night. Hill’s 84.5 on Mystery Soldier earned him over $2,500 for his efforts. Jordan Hansen has been on a roll as of late. He picked up checks everywhere this weekend to move into the middle of the pack. Hansen won $5,518.65 between Medicine Hat, Cochrane, Bonnyville and Bruce.

2007 PRCA World Champion Wes Silcox from Santaquin, Utah has never been to the CFR but it looks like this might be his year. A win in Medicine Hat and a tie for fifth in Cochrane put him in that pack with a shot at Edmonton too. Second in the PRCA right now, his focus looks to be on getting to enough rodeos up here to make the Canadian Finals.
