Cochrane, AB: The 10th Annual Cochrane Classic Bull Riding is set to start just over 24 hours from right now. The forecast is calling for a beautiful afternoon and evening so the stage is set.
30 of Canada’s Top Bull Riders will be in town looking at winning their share of the $16,000 in total prize money that will be paid out.
These are some of the match-ups that you can look for tomorrow night.
Scott Schiffner vs. OB 710 Push Pause – This decent sized brindle horned bull kind of shot out of the chute with Scott at the start of this month in the Top 10 Round in Ponoka. From there he went to the right where Scott made a really solid ride on him. Push Pause came back around to the left at the end but that wasn’t a problem. Scott won Ponoka which vaulted him to first in Canada from the $12,000 he won there that counted to the standings. He’s got a shot to do the same here. I bet he’s about 84 tomorrow again.
Here’s that ride from the Ponoka Stampede on July 2nd for an 84.75 point score.
Beau Hill vs. OB 68 Alberta Premium – Beau made a great ride the other day on Ellie Skori’s Smoke Ring in Oyen. He had some trouble this spring with his wrist. It’s looking like he’s doing great lately. He’s sure been riding well and winning a good amount of money. Sitting 9th in the Canadian Standings isn’t bad either. A win here in Cochrane would set him up to be in Edmonton too. He’s got a bull he could win the long go on too in Alberta Premium of the Shellenberg’s. This big black bull has been around a long time now and actually looks better to ride now than he used to. My money is on Beau winning the long go with an 86.
Just like Garrett Green split the win nearly a month ago now at the Aridrie Pro Rodeo with an 86 on Alberta Premium.
Devon Mezei vs. OB 610 D Bomb – D Bomb hasn’t been ridden much, if ever actually. I think Dustin Elliot may be the only guy to ride him so far and that was at Calgary last year for quite a few points if I remember right. Devon has a great style though in my opinion and can ride darn near any bull around so I bet he will get along with this one for a good score. This bull really moves away from a guy though so it’ll probably depend all on what Devon thinks. He’s in 12th in the standings after Oyen has been tallied up, a good ride here to win some money would make the rest of his season a lot easier.
Hopefully this video shows him he will ride D Bomb easy. Jesse Torkelson nearly got the whistle on him in the fifth round of last year’s CFR in this video courtesy of Juxtapose Productions and Hell on Hooves.
Ty Pozzobon vs. FB 142 Blue 42 – Speaking of riding anything, Ty Pozzobon could probably ride any bull in Canada at the moment. Coming off of a big $4,200 win in Oyen on Wednesday, he’s should have the Canadian Finals Rodeo, PBR Canadian National Finals and PBR World Finals made. That’s a great feeling for him after how his year ended up in 2011. Blue 42 of Kelly’s is a blue looking horned bull that’s pretty rider friendly. Ty shouldn’t have any trouble with this bull at all. I bet he’s about 83 and makes it back to the Short Go in the 4th or 5th spot.
This video is one that came from my phone last year after I was bucked off of 777 Like Magic and couldn’t get out from under him. Kind of like my whole last year was. It’s of Robert Bowers getting an 83.5 to win second at Bruce this same weekend last year on Blue 42.
Tanner Girletz vs. FB 802 Heavy Metal – Tanner is 13th in the standings and like Devon, looking to win some money here in Cochrane to make the rest of his season easier. I’m not too sure about this bull but I’ll bet he’s a good one. With the way Tanner rode the other night in Oyen, he should ride anything. Look for Tanner to do some work here and get closer to this year’s CFR.
Girletz riding My Harley and waving at everyone on the back of the chutes on Wednesday making the bull look easy. But not quite easy enough to get a re-ride.
