The 2012 Jasper Heritage Pro Rodeo is now history and what a rodeo it was! Three out of four performances sold out, the best cowboys and cowgirls, tremendous stock and a supporting cast of contract personnel, committee members and volunteers second to none . Here’s the way it all shook out; in the Bareback riding Jake Vold of Ponoka ,AB blew into town opening night and posted an 84 point ride on Northcott’s Dirty Diana, his score stood up through the week.

In the Tie Down Roping Erik Dublanko of Thorsby, AB made it two years in a row, this year with a 7.9 time as opposed to last years 7.8. The Team Roping was won by a pair of wolves in the roping events as Chad Johnson of Del Bonita and Steele Depaoli of Longview take home the hardware with their run of4.6. In the Barrel Racing it was a cowgirl who has become a very familiar face at the pay window, Lacombe’s Cranna Roberts wins yet another rodeo with a fast time of 13.236.

The Saddle Bronc Riding saw yet another cowboy who has revitalized his career walk away with the title as Denver Daines and Apache Junction posted an 84 score opening night and the score stood throughout the rodeo. In the Steer Wrestling Stony Plain, AB bull dogger Derek Frank slam dunked his steer at a time is 3.4 which was good enough for the win.

The Bull Riding was perhaps the most interesting and exciting scenario of the rodeo as things got “sticky” on a Saturday night. Going into the final perf Ty Elliott of Nanton, AB had a strangle hold on the lead with an 85 score , Dakota Peterson of Wood Mountain, SK was in with an 80.5 and Montana’s Beau Hill with an 80 point ride. These were the only qualified bull rides after three perfs, but the bull riders were determined on Saturday night as Scott Shiffner proved that he is a phenomenal bull rider having an awsome year as he and Nothcott’s Black brockle face Swervyn Mervyn got together for an electric 85.5 ride that had the place going crazy. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than that Cochrane’s Jody Turner jumped out on Northcott’s Speed Jam and shot out the lights with a hair raising 86 score!

Although there were some miss calculations originally it all very quickly got sorted out and Jody Turner stepped into the middle of the arena and claimed the buckle and the championship to the delight of a roaring packed house. Once again congratulations to all of the champions and to the Jasper Heritage Rodei committee on another super job and successful rodeo. Next up for team Braniff ? Fishing tomorrow then home for four days and then we will be pulling on our Justin Boots and Wrangler Jeans at the Broncs and Bulls in Halkirk, AB.
