What’s That Bull for the 2015 #BRCFINALS

LLOYDMINSTER, Saskatchewan — With $20,000 in added prize money up for grabs and the $5,000 Fox Drilling Grudge Match, this weekend’s Wrangler Bull Riders Canada Finals III presented by The Patchwork Group is one of the highest paying bull riding events in our nation.

30 bull riders have qualified from every province stretching from British Columbia to Ontario along with international competitors from New Zealand, Australia and Mexico.

Each rider competes both Friday and Saturday evening starting at 7:00pm in the first two rounds of competition. On Friday, the top five bull riders in the standings compete in the Fox Drilling Grudge Match. A qualified ride from a bull rider means $1,000 in their pocket. If the bull wins, the contractor takes home the prize.

The top eight bull riders from the first two rounds qualify for the Championship Round where the aggregate winner takes home the finals champion buckle. The BRC National Championship is awarded to the man who earns the most points between the season and finals combined.

A bull rider winning everything this weekend could head home with over $10,000 depending on potential ground money and the grudge match.

Tickets are available through the Lloydminster Exhibition HERE.

Until bull riding action begins Friday night in Border City, here are a few of my picks on the top matchups for both nights.

Friday October 2nd.

TeHiko Neill vs. A84 Booster Juice – TeHeiko is our lone Kiwi qualifier at this year’s finals. He’s had a fantastic year finishing 10th in the regular season standings. Booster Juice from Cody Strandquist has ridden all three times according to the outs recorded on ProBullStats.com. A right spinner in the last video I watched, this matchup should get us a qualified ride right off the bat.

Steve Maddison vs. 023 Rock Show – Steve is making his first trip to the #BRCFINALS this weekend and his first out should be one to remember. If this Manitoba bull rider stays on this one he should win the round.

Miles Pennington vs. 850 Bo Chill – Miles has a nice one here to get a score on and set him up to make the championship round. Bo Chill has made more miles than most bulls in the past few years and should put up a good fight for Pennington.

Corey Waterson vs. 7-213 Jesus and Bocephus – This is one of the ranker bulls we’ve seen in the BRC. He’s yet to be ridden and Waterson is going to have to do things right to change that for this X6 bull.

Josh Birks vs. 017 Bombshell – From the Outlaw Buckers, Bombshell has also yet to be ridden according to the stats. Birks is likely to change that on Friday as he’s looking to defend his finals title in Lloyd.

Brian Hervey vs. 700 Joe Schmoe – Scores on this bull have been as high as 85 and 86 in the past year and a half. Hervey has won all year long and stayed on more bulls than anyone else. I’m looking for the same outcome here.

Saturday October 3rd.

Logan Biever vs. 013 John Carter – 2014 PBR Canada Champion Zane Lambert was 88.5 on this R-Saga Ranch bull in Prince Albert, SK earlier this year. A red, horned bull he went right with Lambert. Biever could start the round off with a high score here.

TeHiko Neill vs. 193 Open Season – TeHiko has drawn deep at this finals. The other good news is that he rides well enough, he looks to already be the favorite on paper, or screen since we are in 2015. Open Season is a bull we’ve seen plenty of this year. He gets lots of air and went to the right in every video I saw of him.

Cooper Zur vs. 147 Still Water – I like this matchup on Saturday night at the Lloyd Ex.It could be electric. Still Water comes from the Two Bit Nation and has been impressive this year, only getting stronger and better than he was last year.

Shay Marks vs. 114 Ping – Josh Birks rode this Girletz bull twice this year. Once in Tofield for an 84 and for the win at one of the Balzac events to the tune of 84.5 points. Most recently, Jordan Carlier scored 85 on the bull in Airdrie at Bikes & Bulls. Advantage Marks here, look for a top five score with this matchup or possibly the win if a few other picks don’t work out.

Josh Birks vs. 0730 Grind the Crack – Scott Schiffner most recently has matched up with this bull. The first time he was bucked off, then in Stavely he took the bull to a score of 83.5. That ride in Stavely may have been scored higher if the bull didn’t get caught in the chute. This Rafter G bull is likely going to go away from Birks’ hand but that won’t matter.

Brian Hervey vs. 208 Pretty Wreckless – Hervey is poised to become the first two-time BRC National Champion and is likely to do so in fine fashion on the back of this Flying High bull.
