Hervey Takes Commanding Lead on BRC Standings

CALGARY, Alberta — 2013 Bull Riders Canada National Champion Brian Hervey is laser focused on one thing this year, becoming the first two-time BRC Champ.

In three events this week from Rockyford, AB on June 30th, to Bengough, SK and July 1st then back to Balzac, AB on July 3rd, Hervey placed each night picking up $3,081 in earnings and 755 points towards the title.

The biggest check of the four-day run came at the first stop where his long-round best 83 on Gold Member from Wilson Rodeo earned him an envelope totalling $1,885 in numerous colors of Canadian currency. Points wise 280 came in the small town Northeast of Calgary.

From there the BRC was long gone to Saskatchewan where Hervey split the long round with number three man in the BRC, Cody Coverchuk. Scores were the same but the money different. $846 was the total there but the Brandt, AB Bull Rider put another score on the board there in Bengough. An 81.5 put him fifth in the long go meaning even with no scores in the finals he would take home more points than the event winner, William Pooyak. 405 points was the total between the two entries for Hervey but he wasn’t done yet as two days later in Balzac a fourth place finish ended his week for another $332 and 70 points.

Exactly halfway through the 2015 BRC Season, Brian Hervey leads second place Josh Birks by 1,440 points. To put that in comparison, the 2014 title was won with 2,905 points. In 2013, Hervey won the inaugural buckle with 2,645 points. Now up past the $18,000 mark on the year, Hervey does still trail Birks in the rankings of money won.

Event winners from this week were Tehiko Neill of Hamilton, New Zealand in Rockyford, AB earning $5,950; 17 year-old William Pooyak earned his first ever BRC victory in Bengough, SK for $1,731 and a new buckle while fellow Saskatchewan rookie Quinn Lavallee of Meadow Lake, SK won in Balzac taking home $1,328.
