Paradise City for Purcell in Sangudo

SANGUDO, Alberta — Australia’s Will Purcell and Paradise City of the X6 Ranch have met three times in Bull Riders Canada competition in 2015.

As of last night, Will Purcell has ridden the bull all three times and won some major dough in the process.

“We get along really good,” Purcell said of the bovine athlete. “He’s a bunch of fun and a great bull.”

88 points was the result in the Sangudo finals to edge Purcell past second place Armando Davila by 4.5 points.

“I also had a really nice draw in the long round,” Purcell told. “I’m just grateful things are coming together.”

Coming together is an understatement as the Merrijig, Australia man has now won three BRC events titles in his first summer in Canada. Only here since May, Purcell also became the fifth man to cross the $10,000 mark in season earnings on Saturday evening in Sangudo and sits fourth in the nation. Just a week ago Paradise City and the Aussie combined for the AOA Bikes & Bulls win.

Armando Davila is a man we haven’t heard much from lately in BRC competition. Davila’s second place finish holds him down solidly in the number seven spot in the BRC. Second place in Sangudo came on the back of a pair of Thompson Rodeo bulls. In the long round it was an 82.5 on Spidey Sense followed by an impressive 85.5 on Talk is Cheap in the finals. The pay was worth $1,110 and 335 points.

Third would end up in a tie between the number five and number one men in the standings. Cody Coverchuk and Brian Hervey hold down those spots respectively. Coverchuk’s 86 on Get This from the Wild Hoggs was second best in the finals while Hervey rode Heaven Sent from Thompson Rodeo for an 85.5 in that same round.

At this rate, it’s going to be nearly impossible for anyone to even contend against Hervey for his second BRC National Title. Currently, the 2013 BRC Champion holds a lead of over 2,000 points.
