BALZAC, Alberta — Today was a huge day for the bull riding industry in Canada. Another successful Friend Futurity is in the books with the win going to the Flying High Rodeo Co and the inaugural Airdrie Oilmen’s Association Bikes & Bulls Derby Auction grossed $55,700 for their sale this evening.
It all started this afternoon where a bull by the number of 206 took first place with an 85.125 worth $3,150 and a shiny new Jensen Silver Trophy Buckle. This isn’t the first time the High Family has won at the Girletz Rodeo Ranch.
Logan High said this one was out of Burn it to The Ground and a cow out of I’m a Gangster.
On the day, 50% of the bulls were marked 79 points or better. Event organizer and Bull Riders Canada Inc. President Russell Friend told me more about both of today’s events.
Events like these show the improvement of the bucking bull industry in our nation. With these events it puts us that much further ahead in creating the outstanding bulls used in professional events around the country as well as many further possibilities if the caliber is there.
At both of today’s events, bull breeders, buyers, riders and investors were all connected in one place in a setting not often seen, never before in fact at the derby auction. Our hats are off to both the Airdrie Oilmen’s Association, Allen Girletz along with Russell Friend, Bull Riders Canada Inc. and everyone else involved in making these events happen. You and others with your mind set are what helps keep this sport growing and thriving.
Stay tuned in the coming days for more details on the Derby Auction and remember that the AOA Bikes & Bulls weekend is August 22nd & 23rd, $50 will get you camping, concerts, the bike rodeo and two nights of bull riding. It’s a price you won’t beat anywhere else!
Back to the afternoon, Darnell Otto’s Black Bull scored 84.875 for second place and over $2,500.
295 from the Wild Hoggs scored 83.75 for third.
Daniels Bucking Bulls’ 207 scored 83 to place fourth.
Lonesome A Bucking Bulls’ 203 scored 82.875 to tie for fifth with Rocking TG Buckers’ Z46.
