A Dead Heat On Night One of the 2014 BRC Finals

LLOYDMINSTER, Saskatchewan — On what was an exciting night of Bull Riding at the 2014 Wrangler Bull Riders Canada Finals Presented by The Patchwork Group, the standings remain nearly the same going into the final day of the season.

However with only 800 possible points remaining in the race for the 2014 title, only two men remain with a shot at the title.

In the opening round, season leader Cole Young was unsuccessful in making the 8-second whistle on his bull while number two, Brian Hervey, won the round with a huge 89 on Heaven’s Basement from Vold Rodeo.

Young answered in the Fox Drilling Grudge Match with the night’s best 89.5 on Whiskey Throttle from Eno Bucking Bulls and an extra $1,000 in his pocket.

Hervey trails Young by 745 points with a possible 800 points remaining between round two, the championship round and aggregate. A twist remains that Hervey currently leads the aggregate as Young’s Grudge Match score only counts for his bonus points which are already in the standings.

The third highest score on the evening and scond best in the Fox Drilling Grudge Match worth $1,000 was Tim Lipsett’s 88 on 2014 BRC Bull of the Year, Blue Crush from Vold Rodeo.

Landon Lockhart of Manitoba, new to the scene here in Alberta, took the second best score in the round. Lockhart’s 87.5 on E.W.’s Bonnes from Ellie Skori earned him just over $900.

Ashton Arychuk and Tyler Pankewitz tied for third and fourth in the long go with their matching 84’s on Battle Scars and Strong Foundation respectively for $463 each.
